Emersyn Jane Mantle is here!!

Dear Emersyn,
My first post written to you!! I have written to the baby, but now I know who you are! Here's the story of the day you were born!
Here you and I are the night before you were born! I had to take this picture because this is pretty much what I lived in the last three weeks of this pregnancy. Your daddy's shorts and either a tank top or one of your daddy's shirts! :)

We went ahead and induced you two days early. With my history of always needing to be induced I decided I did not want to wait until 41 weeks, I was miserable, couldn't take care of your big brother and sister, had no energy, and it was time! So Tuesday, June 14 your daddy and I woke up very early. We headed out at 5:30 in the morning so we could get to the hospital by 6. However, there was a terrible wreck on the highway that had the traffic stopped. So we were a little late, but it all worked out.

We registered and got up to the maternity ward. It was so peaceful and quiet. We would come to find out the advantages to a small town hospital that doesn't have 10 patients laboring at one time....in fact all day they only had 2. We met our nurse Christy. She was very nice and did a great job. She answered our questions and kept us calm. Both mommy and daddy were so nervous to be at a different hospital. But Christy was able to ease our worries and it seemed like it was going to be a great experience. The number one thing she told me was that after you are born that I can do skin-to-skin for as long as I would like. This was important to me. I had heard that in Chanute they take the baby right away to the nursery to clean the baby and weigh the baby. Well, come to find out they do all of that in the room. So, I felt very good about what was going to happen.

So, at 7:30 they got me all hooked up with the pitocin. I also got an antibiotic hooked up because I tested positive for the Gestational Strep B, I'm still not 100% sure what that entails, but as long as I'm administered the antibiotic 4 hours before you were born you would be fine. After getting hooked up Daddy and I rested a little. We got up so early, we were so tired, so we took brief naps until about 8:30. Shortly after we rested Dr. Hamlin came in. She broke my water and inserted a balloon of some sort to thin my cervix. This worked really well.
We then just visited, Auntie M came and visited and hung out for a little bit. I was feeling some contractions, but it really wasn't so bad. Auntie M left around 11:30 and Mimi showed up around noon. Daddy kept saying he needed to go get his shoes out of the car (he was wearing his sandals).
At about noon I started to feel more intense contractions. I asked for the dr to come in and check me because if I was close to a 7 I wanted to get the epidural. I think I could have maybe endured the pain this time, it really wasn't too bad, just uncomfortable. However, you were still so high up in me, and I knew that once I got the epidural my body would relax and let go which would mean you would drop. Dr. Hamlin came in to check me and said I was at a 6 1/2. I went ahead and said yes to the epidural, they had warned that being at a smaller hospital it could be an hour before they could come do the epidural. But, he came pretty quickly. He asked mimi and your daddy to step out of the room - but your daddy did not leave. They let him sit in a chair in the corner. :) Your daddy was so cute being all heroic and refusing to leave my side :)

The epidural was done and inserted at 1:00. The nurse, Christy, stayed in my room for 30 minutes, she said she has to stay to monitor my vitals and make sure the epidural takes well. Christy walked out at 1:30, then at 1:40 I felt an urge to push. I knew something was happening. We called the nurse in to check me and sure enough I was at a 9 1/2 and the head was there ready to come on out. They quickly set up the room and tracked down Dr. Hamlin. I started to get emotionally overwhelmed because I was nervous you were going to come and Dr. Hamlin wouldn't be there. However, Dr. Hamlin walked in and we began pushing. The epidural worked well....however, I felt so much pressure this time - more than I had ever felt with the other two. It was pretty overwhelming. I felt like I was pushing and not making any progress. Well, come to find out it really didn't take long - Apparently I pushed for 10 minutes and then here you were!! The nurse said look up, look up! and I did and it was the most beautiful sight ever! Instant tears, and then I remembered I needed to look to see if you were a boy or a girl!? So I sat up again and you were a girl!! I was so excited!! Your daddy was so excited, biggest smile ever, and tears in his eyes, he leaned over and asked me -- do you see? Do you see what the baby is? And all I could do was nod because I was so happy!

Not finding out your gender was SOOOO hard - but SOOOOOOO worth it! I don't think I could have done it with your sister or brother - and if your brother was a girl, we probably would have found out what you were as well....but it just worked out perfect. I still stick with my reasoning of I would probably get induced and therefore needed to leave your gender for a surprise, since you're due date wouldn't be! ;)

This was right when I felt the urge to push - knew it was time!
You're here!! Born at 2:00 p.m. I was immediately in love!

Dirty and beautiful! :)

Mommy and Emy and Daddy and Emy! So in love!

More skin to skin after daddy got a turn to hold you. I held you like this for 45 minutes, then daddy held you for a few minutes, then back on mommy for another 30-45 minutes! It was blissful and amazing! I did not get skin to skin with the other two, I got to hold them briefly before they were taken over to the scale. At Shawnee Mission they had many other moms laboring so they needed to clean up my baby and move on, well, here in Chanute all the nurses and doctors left the room even and we just got alone time. Like I said earlier they only had 2 people laboring that day, and the other lady had her baby a little before me - so I was the only one when you were born.

Born at 2:00 pm, 7 pounds, 8 ounces, and 20 1/4 inches long.

Such sad faces!!!!!!

You love to suck on your hands.....we give you the pacifier as well, hoping you're not a thumb sucker

You enjoyed your first bath.

We moved to our other room at around 5:00. Your daddy got to pick our room. There were two options, he picked the one with the smaller bathroom, but it had a large window!! Perfect choice! Shortly after we moved to our room, I sat in the chair because my hips were still hurting a little. We got our dinner but I started to not feel very well, I barely could eat anything.....in fact I can't even remember what I ordered that first night to eat....Oh! I think I ordered a cheesburger and fries, it either wasn't very yummy or I just simply did not feel good. Luckily, you were a great baby and slept in your bed while we ate dinner. Daddy helped me move to my bed, where I could barely make it there. My head was starting to hurt by then. So, we paged the nurse and she came in and I took some pain medication and promptly fell asleep for about a 30 minute nap. After my nap I felt much better! Which was good because your brother and sister were on their way to meet you!

We tried to tell your sister and brother that we were going to have you the day before, but they did not believe me. So, when they showed up at the hospital, they had no idea what was happening. Daddy met them in the hallway and Eliana saw the nursery and said, babies go in there! So then she had an idea. Daddy brought your brother and sister in the room and they were both SOO excited! It was very cute! They were absolutely in love with you from the beginning! I'm so glad I had mimi (which Eliana was just as excited that mimi was there) video tape it - that way I can document the conversation! :)

Easton is VERY in love you! He would not share you with your sister. He also calls you Pickle Sarah, and only Pickle Sarah! :)
The absolute PROUDEST big sister ever!!! She was so happy that you were a girl and SO happy that you were FINALLY here!! She said, it's FINALLY June!!

I am so thankful that you are here!! I praise God for such an easy delivery and a quick delivery! I told your daddy that I thought it would be a long delivery and I did not expect you to be here before 5:00 - but then you surprised me! We are pretty certain you will be our last baby. It makes me so sad to think about because I do love the miracle of birth and love babies - but I know it's best and I do feel that our family is complete now. So, I'm very thankful that my last delivery was the easiest and you were under 8 pounds!! :) I wanted to have a small baby! :) I am also in love with your dark hair! There's not a lot, but way more than your brother and sister! I hope your hair stays and stays dark! More about you to come soon!!
I am absolutely in love with you beyond belief! I never worry about how I'm going to love another kid but it's SO amazing how the minute you were here my heart grew!!!
I love you sweet Emersyn Jane Mantle
Love, Mommy
